Shauna Burke from Corbally, Co. Limerick was just 10 years old in August 2009 when she cut her leg on a nail protruding from a box mounted on a pole.
Despite receiving medical treatment, Shauna (now 17) still has a visible scar on her leg (above her knee).
The owner of the caravan park denies negligence, but subsequently offered a sum in settlement, which was, in turn, approved by Mr. Justice Anthony Barr. Judge Barr commented that it was a very good offer. The settlement sum will be paid into Court funds and will be released when Shauna turns 18 years of age.
