Hussey Fraser Solicitors represented a young woman who was awarded €80,000 in general damages by the High Court after she suffered burns during a laser hair removal treatment. The court heard that the injuries had a lasting physical and psychological impact and ultimately led her to abandon her hopes of pursuing a modelling career. This case highlights the standards of care expected in cosmetic and aesthetic treatments and the serious consequences that can arise when those standards are not met.
Represented by Hussey Fraser Solicitors, the Treacy family attended the Court of Appeal following a decision to reduce the sentence imposed on a drink-driver responsible for a fatal road traffic collision in Co Laois. The case arose from a tragic crash in April 2014 in which four-year-old Ciarán Treacy was killed and his mother Gillian Treacy sustained life-threatening and lifelong injuries.

Our TeamWe introduce you to the personal injury claims’ process in a straightforward and helpful manner.
Claims ProcessWe've put together answers to the questions we hear most often from people who've been injured or who suspect their medical care fell short. If you don't see what you're looking for, get in touch and we'll be happy to help.
Still have questions? Contact usIf you were injured as a result of someone else's negligence (in a road accident, workplace incident, or public place) you may have grounds for a claim. The key question is whether another party owed you a duty of care and failed to meet it. You don't need to be certain before contacting us; that's what an initial consultation is for. We'll assess what happened and give you a clear view of whether it's worth pursuing, with no obligation to proceed.
Get medical attention as soon as possible. Your health comes first, and medical records are important evidence. Report the accident to whoever is responsible: your employer, a property owner, or the Gardaí in a road accident. Note the details while they're fresh: dates, times, location, and witnesses. Take photographs if it's safe to do so. Don't sign anything or accept any payment without taking legal advice first. The sooner you contact us, the better we can protect your position.
In most personal injury cases, you have two years from the date of the accident (or from when you first became aware of the injury) to submit a claim to the Personal Injuries Assessment Board (PIAB). Medical negligence claims follow the same two-year rule, running from when you knew or ought to have known that negligence caused you harm. There are limited exceptions, for example for claims involving minors. Missing the deadline usually means losing your right to claim, so take advice early.
Medical negligence occurs when a healthcare professional (a doctor, surgeon, GP, or hospital) fails to provide the standard of care that a reasonably competent professional in that field would have provided, and that failure causes harm. It's not simply a bad outcome; medicine carries inherent risk. What matters is whether the standard of care fell below what was acceptable. Common examples include delayed or missed diagnosis, surgical errors, and birth injuries. These cases require independent expert medical opinion to assess properly.
Before you commit to anything, we explain exactly how fees work. All fees and terms will be set out in a clear and transparent manner, and everything agreed will be confirmed in writing for your peace of mind. Where outlays may arise, such as costs for medical reports or expert opinions, these will be explained upfront. There are no hidden charges and no surprises. We want you to have a full picture of the financial side before you decide whether to proceed.
You don't need to gather everything before contacting us. We'll advise on what's required and help you obtain relevant records. In personal injury cases, you'll typically need evidence of your injuries, treatment received, and any ongoing impact. In medical negligence cases, independent expert medical opinion is usually required to establish whether the standard of care fell short. We'll guide you through what's needed and when, step by step, so nothing is missed and nothing is requested unnecessarily.
