Gabrielle McGovern was working as a cabin crew assistant for Air IOM Ltd. on a flight from Palma to Dublin when she slipped on a plastic rubbish bag in the galley and injured her back and shoulder.
Ms. McGovern has had to undergo lumbar surgery but, due to ongoing pain, is unable to return to work as a cabin crew assistant.
At the High Court hearing Mr. Justice Raymond Fullam was told that storage of plastic bags, both full and empty, was an issue affecting all flights. He also heard that the plastic bags were liable to split, thereby permitting rubbish to fall on the galley floor.
Before the Defendants, Air IOM Ltd. and Air Contractors (Ireland) Ltd., presented their defence, Judge Fullam was told that Ms. McGovern’s claim had been settled for an undisclosed amount.
